National Savings and Investments; Premium Bonds

All money invested with NS&I is totally secure

National Savings and Investments (NS&I) are backed by HM Treasury and are guaranteed to be 100% secure. All types of savings provided by NS&I are 'deposit backed', meaning that you are always guaranteed to receive back the deposit that was originally invested.

There are a variety of products which NS&I offer:

  • Premium Bonds: similar to a lottery. Individuals can purchase bonds at a minimum value of £100 and up to a max of £30,000. Each month there is a draw which takes place with chances to win £1million and lots of other cash prizes which are all tax free. Bonds can be cashed in at any time.
  • Index Linked Savings: these are saving certificates which are a long term investment, usually about 3/5 years. The savings are index linked and so are guaranteed to stay ahead of the retail price index fluctuations, so your savings will grow ahead of inflation. The minimum purchase is £100 and the maximum purchase is £15,000 per issue. Interest is tax free but if funds are drawn upon before the end of the agreed term some of the interest will be lost.
  • Fixed Interest Savings Certificates: these certificates offer a guaranteed rate of interest and are Income and Capital Gains Tax free. The minimum investment is £100 and the maximum is £15,000, with the term being fixed between 2-5 years.

For further information on these accounts or to make a purchase take a look at their website; National Savings & Investments.
