| Guide to Public Liability Insurance
Guide Contents
Public Liability Insurance Public Liability InsurancePublic Liability Insurance is designed to provide cover for any accidental injuries or damages suffered by visiting people or customers whilst on the insured business premises. It is simply a third party insurance. An example of this would be a customer tripping over an item of clothing which had fallen to the ground in your clothes shop. The customer may suffer injuries and require a variety of treatments. The cost of the treatment and any other damages awarded would be covered by an appropriate Public Liability Insurance policy. Public Liability Insurance can be included as part of a policy which may also provide suitable Employers Liability Insurance. Similar claims could involve legal fees, compensation, hospital treatment and ambulance costs. All of which are covered when Public Liability Insurance is purchased. Public Liability Insurance is generally not a legal requirement in the UK, but it is a very wise decision if you are a business where members of the public or business clients visit your premises. There are, however, some exceptions to the rule - certain businesses such as horse riding stables for example, who are open to the public are required to have Public Liability Insurance due to the nature of the service they provide.
