Q4 Cover - for Commercial Vehicle Insurance

Different Types of Business Vehicle Insurance

Most vehicle insurance policies provide cover for travel to and from the place of work as well as private and social use, however, if you are using a vehicle which is owned by your company of employment or you are using your vehicle for seeking business, transporting goods, selling services etc, a more specialist insurance cover will be essential.

The different types of business usage can be broken down as follows;

  • Class 1: This insurance is the most basic out of the business vehicle insurance policies which are available. It allows travel to different offices or sites other than the regular place of work. Usually provides cover for the policy holder and their spouse.
  • Class 2: Usually provides cover to policy holder and the policy holders employer or partner.
  • Class 3: Unlike the above classes, Class 3 business vehicle insurance provides cover for commercial use. This level of cover is common amongst sales reps.

All three of the business classes automatically include cover for use for social domestic and pleasure.

Private vehicle insurance may be deemed null and void if the vehicle is being used for business purposes and you fail to notify the insurer.

Van Insurance

This is another insurance category altogether. It provides different levels of cover for a variety of commercial purposes, it includes courier vans, tradesman vans, service vans etc.

No matter what type of insurance is purchased, it is always wise to read and fully understand the terms and conditions of the policy. For instance - some insurers may place a cap on the maximum amount of mileage which may be travelled whilst, this is commonly found on the more basic business class one insurance type.
