Applying for a Business Grant

Once it has been determined which grant is most suitable for the planned project it is time to consider the application process, whilst this will vary slightly the main application structure will often apply.

• Read and fully understand the terms and conditions of the grant. Know and understand the consequences if the project fails, any time constraints etc.
• Include a detailed up to date business plan.
• Include a work plan. This should detail costings and timescale.
• Detail any past achievements of any other implemented projects which your business has been part of. This shows that you have the ability to use the money wisely and make it work.
• Make sure that you are able to match the funds offered by the grant, this is often a condition.
• Detail how your project meets the criteria required by the issuing body.
• Be aware of any time constraints for the application. Any applications which are submitted late will not be considered. There is high competition from businesses wanting these funds, so being organised is essential.

The application process for any grant can be time consuming and sometimes frustrating. Ensure that you include all the relevant and requested information with the application, this will help speed up the process. Once the application has been received by the relevant awarding body, a decision can take anything from a few days to a few months. Larger organisations tend to take longer to process the applications.
